Today was a sad day. It all started Sunday night when we had something happen with the power in our house. I’m not sure if it was related or not, but near the same time the motor in my aquarium filter stopped. Monday night we went to PetsMart and bought a new filter (and better). We installed it Monday night. Tuesday at noon I get a call from my wife saying my fish are dying. I rush home and two are dead and one about to die. These three fish were my original fish I had when I first installed the aquarium almost two years ago. What happened? We put in a new filter. The biological build up that was on the old one wasn’t there to filter the water properly causing the ammonia levels to rise. Note to all you aquarium owners out there, be careful when changing your filters!
Now I have three fish remaining. They were struggling but seem to be getting better. Let’s hope they make it through the night. Rest in peace little fish.
